Rashes and skin concerns have many possible causes, including eczema and other forms of dermatitis, infections, allergic reactions such as hives, and reactions to products or irritants. Some are short-lived and others long-term.

The consultation focuses on examining the skin, taking a history and identifying the most likely cause so treatment can be targeted; where the cause is unclear, further tests or a period of monitoring may be advised.

Most skin treatments take time. Many conditions, including acne and inflammatory skin problems, need several weeks, often up to around three months, before a treatment’s benefit can be judged fairly, and some improvements build gradually after that. We set realistic expectations at the start and review your progress, so the plan can be adjusted if it is not working as hoped.

These conditions can look similar but are managed quite differently, so an accurate diagnosis matters. Eczema tends to be dry, itchy and inflamed; psoriasis often causes thicker, scaly patches; and rosacea mainly affects the central face with flushing and redness.

Others, such as seborrhoeic dermatitis, can overlap too. We examine your skin and take a history to reach the right diagnosis and the right treatment.
