Timing depends on the site of the wound and the procedure, and ranges from a few days to a couple of weeks. Your surgeon or the clinician who carried out the procedure will have advised a timeframe, and we work to that.
Most people find it uncomfortable rather than painful, and it is usually quick. Tell us if you are anxious about it and we will try to make you feel comfortable.
It is a set of measures used to prevent contamination of a wound during care, covering hand hygiene, sterile equipment and how the wound is handled. It reduces the risk of infection.
Signs include increasing pain, redness spreading from the wound, swelling, heat, discharge or feeling unwell. If you notice any of these, contact us promptly rather than waiting for your next appointment.
